Morandi Studies

January 20, 2012

I’ve recently become drawn to the paintings of the late, great Italian artist Giorgio Morandi.   “Copy” sounds plagaristic; “homage” has a nicer ring to it.  Either way, I hope to learn by way of imitation.  Each of these little studies is approximately 4×6 inches, done with cheap tempera paints on Strathmore drawing paper.

I’ve always thought there was a lot to learn from copying (or homaging :)) – these look nice!

Thanks, Laura! I’ve definitely learned that Morandi’s paintings are not as simple as they at first appear.
And by the way, I recognize your work from Etsy…you have a very fresh and distictive style.
