I am a New England-based artist specializing in contemporary, non-traditional botanical illustration. My subjects are primarily natural specimans collected on walks through nearby woods, around our local reservoir and in my own backyard. I prefer to draw plants in their myriad of past-peak forms – wilted, withered, wrinkled, twisted, contorted and the like – which I find gives them more personality and feeling, (hard to avoid injecting some anthropomorphism here). This also suits my sense of color and form; subtle earth tones and delicate yet energetic lines. My works divert from the scientific accuracy of garden variety botanical illustration as I, instead, rely on a liberal smattering of artistic license. All are drawn from life.
